During his inaugural address, Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo underscored the imperative for government action to prioritize the national interest. He also subtly referenced prior consultations with Ousmane Sonko, the outgoing Prime Minister, a political gesture that observers interpret as an indication of developing tensions within the executive branch, urging for greater national cohesion in Senegal.

Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Mohamed Lô, widely known as Al Aminou Lo, has officially assumed leadership of the Primature, outlining the core principles guiding his administration. This highly anticipated address followed the establishment of the new executive team, approved by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and was characterized by a firm political stance centered on loyalty to the “Diomaye Président” agenda and the overarching Vision Sénégal 2050.

In his remarks, the head of government emphasized the critical need for public action to be results-oriented, institutionally coherent, and capable of mobilizing all vital forces across the nation. He presented a 30-member government, which he described as a “mission government,” structured to balance political foundations with technocratic expertise.

The Prime Minister further clarified that the consultations leading to the formation of this governmental team involved all relevant parties, including Ousmane Sonko, the president of the Pastef party. This detail emerges within a charged political climate, marked by disagreements regarding the composition of the new executive and Pastef’s unofficial non-participation in the government.

While not explicitly naming his predecessor, several segments of his speech were widely perceived as direct messages to Ousmane Sonko. By stressing the supremacy of the general interest over partisan considerations, Al Aminou Lo essentially reiterated that “the Homeland and the Republic must always transcend any partisan concern.” This particular phrasing was interpreted by many analysts as a response to the political strains surrounding the governmental transition.

Continuing this line of thought, the Prime Minister highlighted the vision championed by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, which is rooted in the urgent pursuit of a “sovereign, just, and prosperous” Senegal. He stressed the imperative to harness all available expertise, including contributions from the diaspora, to accelerate the implementation of key public policies.

From an organizational standpoint, Al Aminou Lo announced several structural adjustments within the governmental apparatus. Certain responsibilities were reallocated among ministries to enhance the coherence of public action. Notably, the Ministry of Energy, Oil, and Mines underwent restructuring, with some mining-related responsibilities transferred to a newly established department dedicated to Geology.

The head of government also noted that the government spokesperson has been elevated to the status of a full minister, a move that, in his view, demonstrates a commitment to bolstering the consistency and clarity of institutional communication.

Ultimately, the Prime Minister unveiled a revised methodology for governmental action, emphasizing rigor, coordination, and efficiency. This new dynamic, he affirmed, is designed to transform aspirations into tangible outcomes for the benefit of the Senegalese populace.
