Ousmane Sonko reassures Senegalese on unshaken stability amid political turbulence

In the face of mounting political and media upheavals sweeping across the nation, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has forcefully reasserted the resilience of Senegal’s institutions and the unwavering commitment to public order. Leveraging his parliamentary majority, he has vowed that the National Assembly will remain the bedrock of national stability.

The Prime Minister’s message was unmistakably clear: firm, uncompromising, and reassuring. Addressing the Senegalese people directly, Ousmane Sonko dismissed the recent wave of rumors and crisis narratives dominating public discourse. For the head of government, Senegal’s stability is non-negotiable and immune to external pressures. He brushed aside concerns about potential parliamentary disruptions or escalating unrest with a dismissive analogy, labeling them mere “storms in a teacup.”

“Nothing will move in this country, nothing at all,” he declared emphatically, leaving no room for doubt. To reinforce his stance, the President of the National Assembly underscored the political legitimacy underpinning his actions: a dominant party, widespread popularity, and overwhelming support from Senegal’s youth. This coalition, he argued, stands as the nation’s natural shield against any destabilization attempts.

The discourse extended beyond security reassurances, with a strong emphasis on the country’s democratic foundations and the impartiality of state institutions. The President of the Assembly stressed that official decisions and judicial rulings “will apply to everyone without exception,” firmly rejecting any abuse of power. He concluded by affirming that Senegal’s political future and direction will be decided solely through peaceful and democratic means, urging citizens to cast their votes “calmly” in upcoming elections to freely choose their leaders and exercise their sovereignty.
