In a significant step toward urban progress and effective governance, the opening ceremony of the strategic document validation workshop for the Municipal Agency for Major Works (AMGT) was held in N’Djamena. The event underscored the agency’s pivotal role in shaping the city’s future through sustainable infrastructure and strategic planning.
Key stakeholders gather for progress
The workshop, held at the Radisson Blu in N’Djamena, brought together municipal directors, technical leaders, city administration officials, and experts from the Center for Innovation and Development (CID). Together, they assessed critical documents essential for the agency’s operations and long-term vision.
Mayor highlights AMGT’s mission and challenges
During the ceremony, the Mayor of N’Djamena, Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, delivered a keynote address. He reflected on the agency’s founding principles, established during its first board meeting, which outlined its core objectives: enhancing the city’s capacity to design, plan, finance, and execute transformative projects. These initiatives aim to address pressing urban challenges, including rapid population growth, infrastructure gaps, sanitation needs, and climate resilience.
The Mayor emphasized that the AMGT is designed to serve as a cornerstone for N’Djamena’s development, ensuring efficient governance and robust management tools. He called on participants to engage deeply in discussions, offering insights and recommendations to refine the submitted documents—including the administrative, financial, and accounting management manual, the performance monitoring framework, and the environmental, social, and gender management guidelines. These tools are crucial for fostering accountability, sustainability, and inclusive growth.
Building a foundation for future success
Abdoulaye stressed that the agency’s long-term effectiveness hinges on strong organizational structures, transparent governance, and rigorous procedural frameworks. By integrating sustainable development principles, social equity, and environmental protection into every project, the AMGT is poised to drive meaningful change in N’Djamena’s urban landscape.
