President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema of Gabon has confirmed that he will undertake an official state visit to France on July 20, 2026. The announcement was made during a media interaction, though specific agenda details remain undisclosed for now.
This upcoming visit follows the direct dialogue established between Libreville and Paris since the conclusion of Gabon’s political transition period. Key areas of discussion are expected to include economic collaboration, environmental conservation, sustainable forestry management in the Congo Basin, workforce development, and regional security challenges.
Since assuming office in August 2023, President Oligui Nguema has made one prior official trip to France. That visit took place from May 27 to 31, 2024, culminating in a high-level meeting at the Élysée Palace with French President Emmanuel Macron. During that engagement, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties across economics, governance, trade, and environmental protection—with particular emphasis on biodiversity preservation and climate action.
The 2024 visit also featured a major Franco-Gabonese economic forum, drawing nearly 600 business leaders to Paris. Additionally, President Oligui Nguema engaged with members of the Gabonese diaspora. The July 2026 visit will mark his second official trip to France.
Macron’s reciprocal visit to Libreville in late 2025
French President Emmanuel Macron has visited Gabon twice since 2017, most recently between November 23 and 24, 2025, to attend the One Forest Summit—an international environmental conference co-hosted with Gabon.
During his November 2025 visit, President Macron was personally received at Léon-Mba International Airport by President Oligui Nguema. The stated goals included celebrating the completion of the transition process and supporting the new administration within a renewed framework of equal partnership.
That meeting led to the launch of several initiatives: enhanced training for Gabon’s defense forces, establishment of an academy dedicated to natural resource protection, and French support for upgrading the Transgabonais railway.
The upcoming July 2026 visit by President Oligui Nguema underscores Gabon’s strategy to cultivate a balanced and forward-looking relationship with France. Following exchanges in Paris in 2024 and Libreville in 2025, the diplomatic calendar between the two nations is accelerating, signaling deeper cooperation ahead.
