UEMOA: Burkina Faso allocates 11% of public spending to health in 2026
The Burkina Faso is setting a new standard in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA). In 2026, the country will dedicate 11% of its total public expenditure—equivalent to 388 billion West African CFA francs—to the health sector, out of a national budget of 3,432 billion CFA francs. This allocation represents an unprecedented regional milestone, significantly surpassing neighboring countries and aligning closely with international health financing recommendations.
This bold financial commitment underscores Ouagadougou‘s prioritization of healthcare as a cornerstone for sustainable development. While the allocation falls just short of the World Health Organization (WHO) target of 15%, it signals a clear vision for strengthening health infrastructure, improving access to medical services, and enhancing public health outcomes across the nation.
