Yaoundé launches major water network upgrade project to boost potable water access
The groundbreaking ceremony for Yaoundé’s potable water supply network reconfiguration project took place this Thursday at Minkoameyos. The initiative aims to transform water access for thousands of residents across the capital and surrounding areas.
Transforming Yaoundé’s Water Infrastructure
This ambitious project, initiated by President Paul Biya’s directive, will reconfigure the potable water supply network serving Yaoundé and surrounding municipalities including Soa, Akak, Mfou, Bikok, and Mbankomo. The initiative specifically targets areas with limited access or frequent service disruptions, ensuring reliable water supply for both residential and non-residential users.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place at the Minkoameyos town hall esplanade, presided over by Minister of Water and Energy Gaston Eloundou Essomba. Key stakeholders including Camwater Director General Dr. Blaise Moussa, government officials, diplomatic corps representatives, local elected officials, and civil society leaders were in attendance to mark the project’s official launch.
Speaking at the event, Minister Eloundou Essomba emphasized the critical need for collaborative efforts among all stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution. Dr. Blaise Moussa reassured that Camwater would provide full support and remove all obstacles to guarantee timely completion, addressing the growing water needs of Yaoundé’s residents and surrounding communities.
