Togo’s faure gnassingbé strengthens ties in Uganda

Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé is scheduled to embark on an official visit to Kampala, Uganda, this Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Invited by Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, this diplomatic engagement seeks to further solidify the collaborative ties between Togo and Uganda.

During his stay, the Togolese head of state will hold a private discussion with his Ugandan counterpart. Their talks are anticipated to focus on crucial issues such as continental peace, regional security dynamics, and the broader agenda of African integration, particularly in light of persistent challenges within the Great Lakes region.

President Gnassingbé is also set to participate in the official inauguration ceremony of Yoweri Museveni, who was re-elected following the general election on January 15. This significant event, taking place in Uganda’s capital, is expected to draw a multitude of African heads of state, high-ranking government officials, and delegates from international organizations.

According to the Togolese presidency, this visit highlights the mutual desire of both nations to deepen their political and diplomatic cooperation. Lomé and Kampala regularly engage in consultations regarding various African security concerns, notably the ongoing armed violence and humanitarian crisis in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, which has persisted for several years.

Through this important visit, Togo reiterates its steadfast dedication to fostering dialogue, upholding regional stability, and enhancing collaboration among African states.
