The president of the Forum du Justiciable, Babacar Bâ, has once again taken a firm stance against what he describes as a glaring inconsistency in the discourse of former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko regarding political funding transparency. In a bold public statement, the human rights advocate emphasizes that the same individual now positioning himself as a champion of integrity and good governance personally oversaw a political fund exceeding 1.7 billion CFA francs during his time as head of government—a figure Sonko himself had publicly acknowledged.
For Babacar Bâ, the irony is stark: Sonko, who once loudly condemned what he termed ‘black coffers’ within state mechanisms, became the administrator of those very funds he criticized. The Forum’s coordinator has made political funding transparency a recurring priority in recent months, repeatedly demanding that the Presidency, Prime Minister’s Office, and National Assembly disclose received amounts and submit to audits by the Court of Auditors.
Bâ characterizes governance in Senegal as a farce of institutional hypocrisy, urging the Senegalese people to awaken, unite, and reclaim control of their future. His rhetoric shifts from the typically technical tone of his previous appeals about public fund management to a more urgent, mobilizing call to action.
