Last week, Kigali and Kinshasa held their sixth joint follow-up committee meeting in London, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to de-escalating tensions—particularly in the Minembwe region—and broadening the ceasefire verification mechanism. However, this pledge comes amid escalating U.S. sanctions targeting Rwandan officials and businesses accused of facilitating gold and coltan trafficking from areas controlled by the M23/AFCL rebel alliance.
