Ligue des champions : débordements dans Paris et près de 300 interpellations suite à la victoire du PSG

Nearly 300 individuals were taken into custody across Paris following widespread disturbances and confrontations with law enforcement that marred the capital’s celebration of PSG’s Champions League victory on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez addressed the press around 1:30 AM Sunday, confirming that while there were festive demonstrations, they were unfortunately marred by numerous incidents of public disorder. He stated, “There were festive demonstrations which were punctuated by a number of disturbances, which corresponds to the situation we had foreseen and therefore anticipated.” He reported a total of 416 arrests nationwide, with 283 occurring specifically within the greater Paris area.

The Minister emphasized the severity of the situation, declaring these disturbances “absolutely unacceptable.”

Nuñez also detailed injuries to seven police officers, including one in Agen who suffered a serious head trauma. Incidents of disorder were reported in approximately fifteen cities across the country, with notable instances of looting occurring in Rennes, Strasbourg, Clermont-Ferrand, and Grenoble.

In Reims, Mayor Arnaud Robinet briefly noted “a few arrests” in a social media post.

Earlier, the Paris Police Prefecture (PP) announced the seizure of 24 flares and approximately one hundred fireworks mortars. Reports also indicated damage to six vehicles and two businesses near Porte de Saint-Cloud, specifically a bakery and a restaurant. Closer to the scene, I observed a continuous barrage of fireworks and young individuals climbing onto a fire engine.

Minister Nuñez further explained that “four attempts to block the périphérique (ring road) led to extremely swift interventions by law enforcement, who systematically de-escalated the situation.”

Near the iconic Champs-Elysées, where an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 people had gathered during the match, and thousands more converged post-game, projectiles were hurled at police officers. In the 8th arrondissement, individuals attempted to breach a police station before being dispersed by authorities.

A police source confirmed a stabbing incident in Barbès and an intoxicated man falling into the Seine in the 5th arrondissement.

At Parc des Princes, around 150 individuals attempted to force entry through a gate. However, a rapid police maneuver successfully repelled them, restoring calm within moments.

Later, I witnessed clashes erupt between police and supporters near Porte de Saint-Cloud, adjacent to the Parc. Fireworks mortars were launched at officers, who responded with tear gas to disperse the crowds.

The prefecture affirmed its meticulous preparation of the security arrangements for the Champions League final, as well as for other major events concurrently taking place in the capital, including a rugby match, the ongoing Roland-Garros tennis tournament, and concerts by singer Aya Nakamura at Stade de France and rapper Damso at Paris La Défense Arena.

Public transport halted

With an unprecedented deployment of 22,000 police and gendarmes nationwide, including 8,000 assigned to Paris and its metropolitan area, authorities had implemented an extraordinary security plan.

The Police Prefecture had reiterated its commitment to ensuring “a popular, serene, and fully secured celebration for everyone,” stressing directives for “reactivity, engagement, and firmness.”

A significant number of public transport services were suspended. IDF Mobilité announced on its X account that “due to the very numerous gatherings, the network is heavily impacted with many lines stopped to guarantee the safety of passengers and drivers.”

For comparison, the previous year saw 5,400 police and gendarmes deployed in Paris and its agglomeration, resulting in 563 arrests (491 in Paris) and 307 detentions (202 in Paris).

The victorious players are scheduled to participate in a parade on Sunday afternoon at the Champs-de-Mars in the 15th arrondissement, where nearly 100,000 people are anticipated to gather, before being received by President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysée Palace.
