Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has issued clear directives to several key ministries, including those responsible for the Environment, Tourism, Economy, Planning, Cooperation, Finance, and Budget. The mandate is to implement all necessary measures to invigorate the management of Senegal’s invaluable national natural heritage.
Working in close coordination with COSIVRA, the administration aims to establish a modern and sustainable framework for developing the nation’s national parks and significant ecological sites. This innovative strategic direction will heavily rely on public-private partnerships (PPPs), seeking to forge a synergy between the critical preservation of biodiversity and enhanced economic appeal.
Niokolo Koba, Djoudj, Saloum, and Technopole at the heart of the attraction strategy
This governmental instruction specifically targets strategic and highly attractive tourist ecosystems across the Senegalese territory. The deployment of these partnerships will directly impact sites such as the Niokolo-Koba National Park, Hann Park, the Saloum Delta, the Djoudj National Bird Park, alongside the sensitive urban reserves of the Technopole de Dakar and Lac Rose.
By entrusting the development and enhancement of these locations to private operators, under rigorous state oversight, the government intends to attract substantial investments, modernize visitor infrastructure, and generate new revenue streams. Simultaneously, this approach ensures the stringent protection of these classified natural areas.
