Ouragahio, Côte d’Ivoire – On Saturday, July 4, 2026, the Ouragahio municipal council, under the leadership of Mayor Dr. Pierre Dacoury-Tabley, conducted a comprehensive review of its women’s empowerment policy. This evaluation took place at the town hall courtyard, coinciding with a special tribute ceremony for the commune’s women, affectionately known as ‘Mother’s Day,’ presided over by local sub-prefect Tié-Bi Assi Apo Josiane.
The initiatives assessed encompassed a wide array of support mechanisms. These included foundational literacy training and essential basic accounting skills tailored for women entrepreneurs and traders. Significant attention was also dedicated to maternal and child healthcare provisions, alongside efforts to expand maternity facilities and health centers across the communal territory. Mayor Dacoury-Tabley emphasized that the overarching goal was to ensure mothers’ well-being, enabling them to actively participate in and lead their own empowerment endeavors.
In the realm of commerce, Dr. Dacoury-Tabley highlighted the ongoing construction of a multi-shop gastronomic hub. This new space is designed to showcase the culinary talents and capabilities of local women, providing them with a platform to generate sustainable income from their gastronomic ventures.
Furthermore, the empowerment framework extends to agricultural projects. Women engaged in farming receive crucial assistance, including the provision of agricultural laborers and support staff to aid their work in the fields.
Dr. Dacoury also detailed the establishment of school canteens in every educational institution within the commune. These canteens are consistently supplied with fresh produce cultivated and processed by dedicated local women farmers, who are beneficiaries of projects funded and managed by the Ouragahio municipality. To further facilitate economic activity, the municipality has eased tax burdens for women establishing new businesses, fostering a more conducive environment for their entrepreneurial growth.
During the gathering, Mayor Dacoury-Tabley personally distributed gifts to 600 mothers who had convened from Ouragahio’s various neighborhoods and 11 surrounding villages. The commune’s chief magistrate expressed his satisfaction, stating, “When women unite, it fosters collective reflection, promotes a positive working environment, and, most importantly, enhances overall effectiveness.”
