By late June 2026, the construction of the access roads to the Malombo bridge over the Nyong River in Nyong-et-Kellé is nearly complete. Following the roadway completion, the CFHEC team has begun installing signage and drainage systems.

The access roads to the Malombo bridge across the Nyong River are approaching finalization. The construction firm has recently initiated signage installation, with sanitation efforts currently underway. These dual-carriageway roads span 960 meters across both banks, featuring two lanes of 3.5 meters each, complemented by 1.5-meter shoulders on either side.

The road structure consists of a 25 cm lateritic foundation layer, a 20 cm crushed gravel base (0/31.5), and a 5 cm asphalt concrete surface layer. Meanwhile, the bridge over the Nyong River is also in its final stages of completion.

Public Works authorities confirm the Malombo bridge will be delivered ahead of schedule—approximately eight months before the contractual deadline. As of June 11, the Nyong’s waters receded, allowing the 160-meter structure to stand. The completed steel-concrete dual-beam sections now facilitate local crossings. Access road construction has also progressed significantly.

The CFHEC team is shifting focus to finalizing works under the supervision of the INTEGC/GENERAL ENGINEERING oversight mission. The Public Works Minister, as project owner, has provided consistent guidance ensuring the initiative stays on track despite numerous challenges.

The project’s execution faced hurdles: disputes over construction camp locations, difficult staff acclimatization, fuel siphoning incidents, occasional community resistance, theft at the worksite, pending payments, torrential rains, and floodwaters. Yet none of these obstacles prevented CFHEC from meeting its commitment to deliver the bridge ahead of schedule, as mandated by the Minister of Public Works.
