The long-running investigation into Côte d’Ivoire’s Mutuelle des Enseignants (Mupemenet-CI) has concluded, with the Public Prosecutor at the Economic and Financial Crime Unit filing formal charges against three individuals suspected of embezzling over 5 billion FCFA from the teachers’ mutual fund.
The case, which spanned several months of meticulous scrutiny, culminated in the issuance of preventive detention orders against Agré Lynx Bourgelat, the Executive Director of Mupemenet-CI, and Koné Allagnan, the Chief Financial Officer, both of whom were transferred to the Abidjan Penitentiary Center (PPA)—formerly known as the MACA—for trial preparation.
During interrogations, Bourgelat and Allagnan implicated Dao Ibrahim Kinan, a businessman and political leader, in orchestrating a complex network of shell companies designed to siphon funds from the teachers’ cooperative. Kinan, who also serves as the President of the political party Les Avertis, was subsequently placed under arrest and detained in Abidjan.
The accused individuals are scheduled to appear before the court in the coming days, as prosecutors finalize the charges related to the alleged financial misconduct.
