Morocco is ramping up efforts to secure the necessary capital for the Atlantic African Gas Pipeline (AAGP), a joint initiative with Nigeria. The North African kingdom is in talks to raise $26 billion from the United States Export-Import Bank and the World Bank, according to Youssef Amrani, Morocco’s ambassador to the United States.
The proposed pipeline aims to transport natural gas from Nigeria along Africa’s western coast, connecting key markets and boosting regional energy security. With global energy demands evolving, this infrastructure project could play a pivotal role in diversifying supply sources and strengthening economic ties across West Africa.
Morocco’s diplomatic and financial outreach underscores the scale of the initiative, which requires substantial investment to move from planning to execution. The involvement of international financial institutions signals confidence in the project’s viability and potential impact on local and regional economies.
