Morocco is accelerating efforts to secure the financial backing required for the Atlantic African Gas Pipeline (AAGP), a cross-border initiative developed in collaboration with Nigeria. The North African kingdom is now pursuing a total of $26 billion in funding, with the World Bank and the US Export-Import Bank (US Exim Bank) identified as key partners in this ambitious project.
Ambassador Youssef Amrani, Morocco’s envoy to the United States, confirmed that discussions are underway to finalize financing arrangements. The pipeline aims to connect gas-rich West African nations to European markets via Morocco, positioning the country as a critical energy transit hub.
If successfully implemented, the AAGP will not only boost regional energy integration but also strengthen economic ties between Africa and international partners. The project aligns with broader goals of diversifying energy sources and reducing reliance on fossil fuel imports in Europe.
