Morocco reaffirms commitment to counterterrorism in africa
Morocco’s foreign minister highlighted the country’s dedication to stability and shared security during the Marrakech Platform discussions on African challenges
During the Fifth High-Level Meeting of Heads of African Security and Counterterrorism Agencies in El Jadida, Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation with Africa, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, presented His Majesty King Mohammed VI‘s vision for addressing the continent’s pressing security challenges. The meeting, held under the Marrakech Platform, was co-chaired by Morocco and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism.
The minister emphasized the growing threats facing Africa, including regionalized terrorism, escalating armed conflicts, collaboration between terrorist groups and separatist movements, and emerging challenges from technological advancements.
King Mohammed VI’s vision: a comprehensive approach to African security
Bourita underscored that Morocco’s strategy is rooted in the belief that the country’s security is intrinsically linked to Africa’s stability and development. The minister stressed that Morocco’s commitment to combating terrorism is not merely a strategic choice but a historical responsibility toward its continental partners.
Highlighting the principle of Afro-optimism, Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s confidence in Africa’s potential to overcome its challenges. He described the continent as the continent of the future, rich in resources, innovation, and resilience.
