Morocco lodges its defense at CAS over CAN 2025 title dispute with Senegal

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has officially presented its defense to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS). This action comes in response to an appeal filed by Senegal regarding the decision to award the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2025 hosting rights to Morocco. Despite earlier speculation about missed deadlines, Morocco asserts that its submission fully adheres to all established procedural requirements.

Arbitrage de la finale de la CAN 2025 : La Fédération de la RDC prend position après Sénégal – Maroc

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has formally submitted its comprehensive defense arguments to the relevant panels of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS). This submission is a direct response to the appeal initiated by the Senegalese Football Federation, which challenges the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to grant the CAN 2025 title to Morocco.

The Moroccan dossier, containing all pertinent documentation, was meticulously transmitted in strict accordance with the administrative protocols and legal deadlines stipulated by the TAS.

TAS to review the submitted case

The subsequent phase in this legal process involves a thorough review of the submitted documentation by the competent body within the Court of Arbitration for Sport. This entity is tasked with diligently examining the arguments put forth by all involved parties.

Furthermore, reports circulating recently, which suggested that Morocco and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) might have forfeited their right to present their case due to a supposed missed deadline, have been unequivocally refuted.

These explanations clarify that, according to TAS procedural regulations, Sunday is recognized as a public holiday. Consequently, any deadlines falling on a Sunday are automatically extended to the next business day. This provision confirms that the submission made on Monday was entirely compliant with the applicable rules.

It is worth recalling that the Confederation of African Football’s appeal committee had previously ruled to declare the Senegalese national team as having forfeited the match, subsequently awarding a 3-0 victory to Morocco. This decision followed the departure of Senegalese players from the field during the final match.
