Morocco and UK aim to double trade through 2030 World Cup projects

The governments of Morocco and the United Kingdom have set an ambitious goal to double bilateral trade volumes and accelerate investment partnerships, leveraging upcoming mega-projects and the preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, as announced during a high-level meeting in Rabat.

Chris Bryant, British Minister of State for International Trade, led a delegation of government and private sector representatives to the Morocco-UK Business Forum. He underscored the strategic importance of doubling trade flows and deepening economic ties between the two nations. The 2030 World Cup, he emphasized, represents a transformative opportunity to enhance Morocco’s global appeal, modernize infrastructure, and create lasting benefits for future generations.

Ryad Mezzour, Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, highlighted how the 2030 tournament is being used as a catalyst for nationwide development. Beyond the stadiums and event venues, the World Cup is accelerating upgrades in transportation networks, healthcare services, and public facilities across the country. He added that Morocco is implementing a sweeping eight-year economic and territorial transformation plan to maximize the long-term impact of these investments.

Mezzour extended a direct invitation to British businesses, urging them to participate in Morocco’s public procurement initiatives and large-scale transformation projects. He stressed that the partnership should evolve beyond technology transfers, focusing instead on co-investment, innovation, and building competitive value chains together.

The two-day forum, held in Rabat and Casablanca on June 2 and 3, brought together nearly 50 UK companies specializing in infrastructure, transportation, security, engineering, design, and professional services.
