Malian military secures 940-truck convoy from Kayes to Bamako

The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) successfully completed a week-long mission between June 23 and 29, escorting 940 civilian trucks along the strategic Kayes-Bamako route. This operation ensured the safe passage of goods through one of the country’s most critical road corridors.

Two-pronged security operation unfolds

The FAMa deployed a dual-phase security strategy. On June 23, the first detachment departed from Kayes with 540 trucks bound for Sandaré. At the same time, a second unit initiated movement from Diéma, where it took charge of the 540 trucks and additional vehicles stranded in Sandaré.

After consolidating at Diéma, the combined convoy reached a total of 940 trucks. Under the protection of Malian military units, the vehicles traveled through Sebabougou, Kwala, Diédiéni, Kolokani, and Kati before reaching Bamako without major disruption.

Strategic road security remains a national priority

This operation highlights the FAMa’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding Mali’s transportation arteries. By securing this vital link between Kayes and Bamako, the military reinforces protection for civilians and facilitates uninterrupted movement of essential goods across the country.
