Japan allocates $3 million to help DRC fight Ebola outbreak

The government of Japan has announced an emergency aid package worth $3 million for the Democratic Republic of the Congo to bolster efforts against the Ebola virus disease outbreak affecting North Kivu and South Kivu provinces in the eastern part of the country.

This financial contribution will be split among three international organisations involved in the humanitarian response. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) will receive $1.5 million, the World Food Programme (WFP) will get $1 million, and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will be allocated $500,000.

The funding will support interventions in key areas, including healthcare, access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene. Japanese authorities believe this assistance will help contain the spread of the Ebola virus not only within the DRC but also in neighbouring countries at risk of cross-border contamination.
