Major initiative to bridge digital divide for young Ivorians
Abidjan — A landmark collaboration between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Orange Côte d’Ivoire is set to transform digital inclusion across the country. The strategic agreement, signed in Abidjan on May 21, 2026, aims to empower young people—especially young women—through digital skills training, startup support, and expanded internet access in underserved areas.
Key pillars of the digital transformation push
The partnership will focus on three core areas: strengthening digital literacy among Ivory Coast’s youth, fostering entrepreneurship through targeted programs, and extending digital connectivity to rural and marginalized communities. By leveraging Orange Digital Center’s network of innovation hubs, the initiative will provide hands-on training and mentorship to aspiring tech entrepreneurs.
Aligning with national development goals
Both organizations emphasized that the initiative directly supports Ivory Coast’s National Development Plan and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The goal is not only to reduce inequality but also to position the country as a competitive player in the global digital economy. UNDP Resident Representative Blerta Cela called the partnership “a pivotal step toward inclusive, equitable growth in Côte d’Ivoire.”
Orange Côte d’Ivoire CEO Mamadou Bamba echoed this vision, highlighting the company’s commitment to creating tangible opportunities for young people and vulnerable groups through digital innovation.
Measurable impact expected in coming years
The collaboration will unfold in phases, with initial programs launching in high-potential regions before scaling nationwide. Training modules will cover coding, digital marketing, and financial technology, while startup incubators will provide seed funding and business development support. Rural communities will benefit from improved internet infrastructure and community tech centers.
