High-level Morocco-France talks seek to ‘elevate bilateral relations’ in Rabat

Morocco and France have taken a decisive step toward strengthening their diplomatic ties, as highlighted by top officials from both nations during a high-level meeting in Rabat this Thursday morning.
This gathering of senior diplomats marks a pivotal moment in the evolving relationship between the two countries, which has seen significant shifts since diplomatic tensions eased following the COVID-19 pandemic and the resolution of earlier disputes.
A ‘new chapter’ in bilateral relations
Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch emphasized that the strengthened partnership, established during the French president’s state visit in 2024, has ushered in ‘a new chapter in bilateral relations’ and set an ambitious trajectory for the future.
French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu echoed this sentiment, describing the talks as a ‘turning point’ as both nations seek to ‘elevate their bilateral relationship to a new level.’
Over a dozen cooperation agreements signed
Before the plenary session, French and Moroccan ministers held bilateral discussions, with a focus on security cooperation and counterterrorism efforts. The meetings also paved the way for a potential royal visit to France, which could culminate in the signing of a new bilateral treaty to redefine the Paris-Rabat relationship.
Following the plenary, more than a dozen cooperation instruments—including conventions, memoranda of understanding, and agreements—were formally signed, signaling a renewed commitment to collaboration.
