First major transfer: FC Barcelona prepares for a significant move!
Anthony Gordon is expected to sign his contract with FC Barcelona this Friday.

With Robert Lewandowski’s departure confirmed, FC Barcelona is swiftly moving to secure a potent replacement. All indications point to the Catalan giants setting their sights firmly on Anthony Gordon.
The talented Newcastle winger, who possesses the versatility to operate effectively in a central attacking role, is anticipated to be officially unveiled by both clubs in the very near future.
An 80 million euro deal confirmed
FC Barcelona is wasting no time. Fresh off clinching another league title, the club has already identified and moved to secure Robert Lewandowski’s successor.
Early this week, reports emerged that Barcelona’s management had reached an agreement with Newcastle for a substantial transfer fee of 80 million euros, potentially increasing with bonuses. This significant development has since been corroborated by Fabrizio Romano, a widely respected authority on football transfers.
Furthermore, Barcelona has already finalized personal terms for the 25-year-old English international, a player they have been keenly pursuing for several months. The transfer was championed by Blaugrana coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco, both long-time admirers of Gordon’s talent. Gordon, who developed through Liverpool’s academy, made his professional breakthrough at Everton before truly excelling at St James’ Park.
He was observed in Barcelona on Thursday, accompanied by his agents and family, to undergo his mandatory medical examination. As expected, the medical was completed without any issues.
From a performance standpoint, the English forward enjoyed a highly productive season with Newcastle, tallying 17 goals and 5 assists across 46 appearances in all competitions. Notably, he netted 10 goals in just 12 Champions League matches.
A distinct profile from Lewandowski
This past season, Lamine Yamal emerged as Barcelona’s top scorer, with Ferran Torres also playing a crucial role in Hansi Flick’s successful campaign. At 37, Robert Lewandowski still managed an impressive 19 goals in 46 matches.
Anthony Gordon offers a versatile option, capable of playing through the middle, but he is most comfortable on the left flank, where he can cut in onto his dominant foot. The chosen profile for the left wing must inject pace, directness, and a high-intensity pressing game into the squad.
The situation surrounding Marcus Rashford remains complicated. Barcelona holds a buy-out clause of 30 million euros until June 15, a figure lower than Gordon’s transfer fee. However, Rashford’s significant salary poses a challenge for Joan Laporta’s financial plans.
Despite this, it does not rule out the possibility of the Manchester United winger playing in Spain next season. Two potential avenues are being explored: a renegotiated loan agreement or a purchase offer with a revised, lower salary package. Beyond these two English talents, Barcelona is also reportedly monitoring Julian Alvarez, indicating a clear intent to bring in significant reinforcements to maintain their dominance in La Liga, following their second consecutive title triumph this season.
