As debates surrounding a potential constitutional amendment intensify in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Voice of the Voiceless (VSV) has issued a strong appeal to President Félix Tshisekedi to take decisive action in easing the mounting political tensions.
In an official statement released in Kinshasa on June 24, the human rights organization warned that the current climate risks exacerbating divisions and fueling human rights violations unless immediate measures are taken to restore calm. The VSV emphasized that the situation remains particularly fragile, especially amid persistent insecurity in the country’s eastern regions.
Preserving national unity in times of crisis
The VSV underscored that President Tshisekedi, as the head of state, holds a pivotal role in fostering cohesion and preventing further polarization. The organization urged authorities to promote messages of unity and discourage rhetoric that could deepen societal fractures.
It stressed that political leaders across the spectrum must exercise restraint, prioritizing the nation’s collective interest over partisan or communal agendas. The VSV highlighted that no political, ethnic, or regional affiliation should overshadow the imperative of national stability.

The human rights group also called on all political actors to uphold democratic values, human rights, and fundamental freedoms. It emphasized that the country’s stability hinges on leadership that champions dialogue and accountability rather than division.
According to the VSV, a proactive intervention by the President to de-escalate tensions could significantly mitigate risks of further political deterioration. The organization remains convinced that responsible governance and adherence to democratic norms are essential to navigating this critical juncture.
