N’Djamena is on the brink of a major energy milestone as the Chad power sector gears up for the next phase of its 40 MW tri-fuel power plant initiative. A high-level delegation led by Yazid Djellouli, CEO of Sonelgaz International, recently visited the Chadian capital to finalize technical assessments and operational milestones in collaboration with Tchad-Elec.
The upcoming plant stands out for its innovative tri-fuel technology, enabling it to operate using natural gas alongside alternative liquid fuels. For N’Djamena—where power outages and rising demand have long posed challenges—this adaptability ensures a more stable energy supply. The plant can adjust production based on local or imported fuel availability, enhancing energy security across the region.
Beyond electricity generation, this project includes a critical knowledge-sharing component. Leveraging Sonelgaz’s extensive experience in managing large-scale production networks in North Africa, the partnership will support the Société Nationale d’Électricité (SNE) in maintaining and optimizing the new facility. This South-South cooperation model is designed to empower Chadian engineers with advanced technical skills, fostering long-term energy independence for the country.
The initiative aligns with Chad’s broader economic sovereignty goals. By diversifying partnerships and adopting flexible energy solutions, the nation aims to cut reliance on expensive fossil fuels while reinforcing the stability of its national grid. This expansion of production capacity not only signals progress in Chad’s energy sector but also strengthens the foundation for industrial growth and economic development nationwide.
