Burkina Faso prime minister meets inter-african insurance federation ahead of Ouagadougou event

The Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, welcomed a high-level delegation from the Inter-African Federation of Insurance Advisors (FIAC) this Tuesday, June 9, 2026. The delegation, led by its Acting President Vakaramoko Samaké, presented the key priorities of the 16th annual general assembly, scheduled for June 10 to 13 in Ouagadougou.

Under the guiding theme «The role of insurance brokers in expanding access and boosting market penetration», the upcoming gathering aims to position brokers as pivotal players in financial inclusion across the region.

The regional event will bring together close to 200 insurance brokers representing the 14 member countries of the Inter-African Conference of Insurance Markets (CIMA), alongside delegates from Guinea-Conakry and Ghana. Following the meeting, Acting President Samaké highlighted the Prime Minister’s personal commitment to endorsing the event.

«We emphasized how our profession drives economic growth and job creation in our countries. This general assembly signals the start of a qualitative transformation we are determined to achieve. The financial inclusion theme marks a fresh beginning for how insurance advisors can better serve our communities,» Samaké noted.

The Head of Government praised Ouagadougou’s selection as host city for the 16th edition, calling it «a gesture of solidarity» toward Burkina Faso.

«Our country has faced unwarranted criticism and negative stereotypes, yet we remain steadfast. Burkina Faso continues to advance across all fronts, as evidenced by our macroeconomic indicators,» the Prime Minister stated.

He went on to underline the timeliness of the chosen theme, aligning with government priorities. «Your work is crucial. Today, insurance matters in every sector—even rural communities now rely on climate insurance. It shows how risks are expanding and how essential basic coverage is for our people,» he said.

Reaffirming the administration’s resolve to leverage insurance brokers as tools for resilience, the Prime Minister closed by saying, «Rest assured of our full cooperation and willingness to implement your recommendations. I urge you to unite and stay attuned to the times.»

The audience underscored the government’s commitment to transforming the insurance sector into a cornerstone of Burkina Faso’s economic recovery and resilience.
