Burkina Faso and Serbia forge stronger ties, serbian parliamentarian declares africa’s future

Burkina Faso and Serbia have expressed a strong commitment to enhancing their bilateral relationship. On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, the Burkinabè Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabè Abroad, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, accompanied by the Minister Delegate Bêbgnasgnan Stella Eldine Kabré/Kaboré, hosted a Serbian parliamentary delegation. The delegation was led by Slavenko Ristic.

During their working visit to Ouagadougou, the Serbian delegates aimed to explore various avenues for collaboration between the two nations, with particular emphasis on defense, security, and specialized training sectors.

In the course of discussions, Slavenko Ristic, who also serves as the Chairman and CEO of Tehnicki Remont Bratunac, a company specializing in defense technologies, commended the current strategic direction of Burkina Faso. He also lauded the leadership demonstrated by President Ibrahim Traoré.

The path charted by the President of Faso is widely recognized and elicits significant admiration in my country,” Ristic affirmed. The Serbian parliamentarian further underscored his nation’s desire to enhance its presence across the African continent. Africa represents the future, and we are determined to be an integral part of that future, Slavenko Ristic declared.

For his part, the head of Burkinabè diplomacy expressed his appreciation for this initiative, interpreting it as clear evidence of Serbia’s increasing interest in Burkina Faso. He noted that both countries possess substantial, yet largely unexploited, opportunities for cooperation.

Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré reiterated that Burkina Faso is actively pursuing a policy of diversifying its international partnerships. In this strategic endeavor, the nation is paying particular attention to countries in Eastern Europe.

We are actively seeking partners with whom we can cultivate mutually beneficial, win-win relationships,” he emphasized.

The minister also outlined the new vision spearheaded by the Burkinabè authorities to his Serbian counterpart, inviting him to play a role in fostering a more accurate understanding of African realities within European institutions.

Acknowledging this important appeal, Slavenko Ristic committed to advocating for the perspectives of Burkina Faso and Africa among European policymakers. His goal is to promote a rebalancing of cooperative relations between Europe and African nations.

This significant meeting marks a pivotal new phase in the rapprochement between Ouagadougou and Belgrade. It unfolds as Burkina Faso continues to pursue numerous initiatives aimed at diversifying its strategic international partnerships on a global scale.
