The Burkina Faso women’s national team completed another round of friendly matches in preparation for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). After a goalless draw, the Stallions faced Mali once more this past Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou, with the match ending in a 2-2 tie.
The visitors from Mali struck first. In the 10th minute, Fatoumata Diarra capitalized on a defensive lapse to put the Eagles of Mali ahead (0-1). The hosts, however, remained composed and quickly regrouped. Burkina Faso took control of the ball, pressing the Malian defense and creating multiple scoring chances.
Rebounding off the crossbar, Deborah Guira pounced on the loose ball to level the score (1-1), stunning the crowd with her sharp finish.
Despite Mali’s technical prowess, Burkina Faso dictated the tempo. On a well-built attack, Judicaëlle Ouoba unleashed a powerful shot past the Malian goalkeeper, putting the Stallions in front at halftime (2-1).
Mali fights back in the second half
In the second period, Burkina Faso maintained possession dominance, while Mali struggled to break through the disciplined Burkinabé defense. However, a penalty awarded in the final minutes gave the visitors hope. Aissata Traoré converted the spot-kick with precision, restoring parity (2-2) in a dramatic finish. The deadlock held until the final whistle.
The first meeting between the two sides earlier in the week had also ended in a 0-0 draw. These fixtures are part of the buildup for the 2026 Women’s CAN, which will be hosted by Morocco from July 25 to August 16, 2026.
Burkina Faso has been drawn in Group B alongside Côte d’Ivoire, Tanzania, and South Africa. Meanwhile, Mali is placed in Group A with Ghana, Cape Verde, and Cameroon. Both teams are fine-tuning their strategies under their respective coaching staffs as they target strong performances in the tournament.
