Algeria and Chad strengthen ties with new infrastructure cooperation agreement

In a significant step toward deepening bilateral relations, Algeria and Chad formalized a new agreement in N’Djamena aimed at fast-tracking infrastructure projects and the development of the trans-Saharan highway. The landmark deal, signed on Thursday, outlines streamlined processes to accelerate cooperation in public works and infrastructure, reinforcing commitments made during high-level talks in April.

The agreement was signed by Abdelkader Djellaoui, Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, and Amir Idriss Kourda, Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Land Unblocking, and Road Maintenance. The signing ceremony took place during a coordination meeting held on the second day of an Algerian delegation’s official visit to Chad.

Key figures from both nations attended the meeting, including the Director-General of Algeria’s Agency for International Cooperation and Solidarity for Development, the Algerian Ambassador to Chad, and senior representatives from Algeria’s Cosider Group and the National Public Works Company (SNTP). Chad’s delegation included the Minister of State for Infrastructure and senior officials.

During the discussions, Chad’s Infrastructure Minister highlighted the rapid momentum building behind the implementation of bilateral agreements, commending tangible progress since their ratification in April. He cited recent technical exchanges and the initiation of feasibility studies for the trans-Saharan highway project across Chad as clear signs of forward movement.
