The diplomatic alliance between Lomé and Kinshasa has taken a decisive turn as leaders address the escalating security challenges in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
During a high-level meeting in Pya, within the Kozah region, Togolese President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé welcomed Floribert Anzuluni, the DRC’s Minister of Regional Integration, for strategic discussions on bilateral cooperation and regional stability.
Strengthening ties and tackling eastern DRC’s security threats
The agenda centered on reinforcing mutual diplomatic and economic partnerships, but the pressing security situation in eastern DRC dominated the conversation. Both leaders evaluated the ongoing mediation efforts aimed at restoring peace in a region plagued by persistent conflict.
Togolese leadership praised in regional peace efforts
At the conclusion of the talks, Minister Anzuluni commended President Gnassingbé for his unwavering commitment to resolving the crisis in the Great Lakes region. As the African Union’s designated mediator for this conflict, the Togolese leader has been actively engaging with all stakeholders to broker a sustainable political solution.
