N’Djamena welcomes the Parc de l’Amitié Tchad-Chine as a green milestone
The official launch of the Parc de l’Amitié Tchad-Chine took place this past Thursday under the high patronage of the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Ambassador Allah Maye Halina. This multifaceted project, blending environmental and socio-ecological innovation, was delivered by the Ministry of Environment, Fisheries and Sustainable Development through the National Agency of the Great Green Wall.
Speaking at the inauguration, N’Djamena’s Mayor, Senoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, highlighted the symbolic weight of the achievement. “This park stands as a testament to the enduring friendship between Chad and China, a partnership built on trust and shared success,” he remarked.
The Minister of Environment, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, Hassan Bakhit Djamous, emphasized the ecological and social pillars of the initiative. “The Parc de l’Amitié Tchad-Chine is more than a recreational space; it embodies our joint commitment to environmental stewardship and community well-being. Designed as a hub for gathering, education, and social cohesion, it advances our vision of greener, more inclusive, and resilient urban environments,” he explained.
China’s Ambassador to Chad, Wang Xining, echoed this sentiment, calling the park “a living symbol of the deep bonds uniting our two nations.”
Project highlights: sustainability meets urban renewal
Spanning 12,460 square meters, the park integrates green infrastructure, renewable energy, sustainable water management, and recreational amenities. Its development aims to bolster urban greenery, mitigate heat islands, enhance rainwater absorption, and foster urban biodiversity.
Energy and water: self-sufficient and community-focused
The site operates entirely on a 30-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system paired with a 50-kilowatt-hour intelligent energy storage unit. This setup powers lighting, administrative buildings, water pumps, and other facilities autonomously. A 92-meter-deep borehole—delivering 20 cubic meters per hour—supports landscaping needs and provides a community water point for nearby residents.
Designed for everyone: a park for all seasons
The park features a friendship monument, a multipurpose pavilion, children’s play areas, outdoor fitness zones, a prayer space, administrative offices, a service kiosk, public restrooms, internal pathways, parking, and a full solar-powered lighting network.
A model of cooperation
Closing the ceremony, Prime Minister Allah Maye Halina reaffirmed the strength of ties between N’Djamena and Beijing. “The completion of this park reaffirms the consistency of cooperation, friendship, and solidarity between Chad and China,” he stated.
