Dakar hosts exhibition celebrating Morocco-Senegal ties through imagery
On July 14, the residence of the Moroccan Embassy in Dakar became the stage for a unique exhibition titled «Shared History, Common Destiny: Morocco and Senegal Through the Lens». The event brought together political, diplomatic, and media figures to highlight the deep-rooted relationship between the two nations.
Among the attendees were prominent leaders such as Bakary Sarr, Senegal’s Minister of Communication and Government Spokesperson, Amadou Tidiane Wone, Advisor to the Presidency, and Lamine Niang, Director-General of Le Soleil newspaper.
From archives to modern-day bonds: a visual journey
The exhibition featured a carefully curated selection of vintage photographs, newspaper clippings, and historical documents—primarily sourced from Le Soleil’s archives. These visuals traced the evolution of cooperation between Rabat and Dakar over the decades, showcasing pivotal moments in their partnership.
The cultural and historical ties between the two countries were on full display, emphasizing the shared values that have shaped their relationship. The exhibition underscored how these bonds extend beyond politics, encompassing education, trade, and cultural exchange.
Ambassador Naciri’s vision: preserving a legacy for future generations
Morocco’s Ambassador to Senegal, Hassan Naciri, delivered a powerful message during the opening. He described the exhibition as more than a retrospective—it was a call to action. «This collection allows us to revisit the milestones of an exceptional relationship, but also reminds us of our duty to safeguard this shared heritage and pass it on to future generations,» he stated. «It is our responsibility to nurture this bond, enrich it, and ensure its continuity—an inheritance entrusted to us by our Monarchs, Senegalese Presidents, and all those who contributed to its foundation.»
Education as a bridge between nations
Lamine Niang, Director-General of Le Soleil, emphasized the role of education in strengthening Morocco-Senegal relations. «This partnership proves that authentic African solidarity is possible when built on trust and a shared vision, beyond mere interests,» he said. «Today, thousands of Senegalese students pursue higher education in Moroccan universities, while Moroccan students contribute to Senegal’s academic dynamism.»
The exhibition served as a vivid reminder that the Morocco-Senegal relationship is not confined to the past—it is a living testament to cooperation, trust, and mutual growth. By showcasing historical ties, the event also laid the groundwork for an even stronger future partnership.
