Senegal’s vision for autonomous development takes center stage at Nairobi’s Africa Forward summit

Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko recently oversaw the official dispatch of the Senegalese delegation bound for Nairobi. This high-level gathering, known as the « Africa Forward » summit, is scheduled to take place in Kenya until May 13, 2026, bringing together heads of state, key financial partners, and influential private sector leaders.

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, already present in Nairobi, will be joined by a ministerial team and financial specialists, all prepared to champion a transformative perspective on the global stage.

Prior to their journey, the head of Government articulated a clear and resolute directive, consistent with the nation’s commitment to sovereignty: « Our purpose in Nairobi is to uphold an unequivocal principle: there can be no progress without national sovereignty, and true sovereignty necessitates autonomous funding. »

For Dakar, the objective extends beyond mere participation; it is about significantly influencing the restructuring of the continent’s financial frameworks and dismantling conditionalities deemed detrimental to African economies.

The « Africa Forward » summit marks a pioneering format for discussions between the African continent and France. Debates are set to address critical issues such as debt restructuring, securing funds for essential infrastructure, advancing the energy transition, and fostering peace initiatives.

Senegal is committed to advocating for more equitable public-private partnerships (PPPs), designed to mobilize vital resources while ensuring the preservation of the country’s strategic decision-making independence.
