Senegal will not be providing financial assistance for its supporters to travel to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This significant announcement comes from the Minister of Sports, Khady Diène Gaye, putting an end to widespread speculation about an official delegation. Consequently, devoted fans of the Lions will need to arrange their own travel and accommodation to cheer on their national team.

Minister of Sports, Khady Diène Gaye, clarified that the Senegalese government will not be organizing any official trips for fans heading to the United States for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in 2026.
Speaking recently, the Minister elaborated that Senegalese authorities are simply not in a position to cover the expenses for supporters attending this global football spectacle.
Challenges for fan travel to the World Cup
“Every nation operates independently. For this tournament, we are unable to cover the costs for supporters,” stated Khady Diène Gaye. She further highlighted the difficulties, mentioning, “A list I submitted included three presidents of supporters’ committees, and they were denied,” specifically referencing the complexities of visa procedures.
The Minister subsequently reaffirmed the government’s stance: “We will not be facilitating the movement of supporters from Dakar to the United States.”
This declaration definitively concludes any speculation regarding a potential official mobilization of Senegalese fans to accompany the Lions throughout the competition, which is scheduled to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico in 2026.
Consequently, Senegal’s national football team will largely depend on its diaspora supporters residing abroad, or on those passionate fans who can independently finance their journey, to provide crucial backing during the global tournament.
