Senegal politics: presidential advisor dismisses claims of secret deal involving Diomaye Faye

With the PASTEF party congress just two days away, government advisor Aldiouma Sow has publicly challenged Ousmane Sonko’s recent assertions. In a bold statement, he defended President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, firmly denying rumors of a supposed secret pact allegedly made during detention at Cap Manuel.

Aldiouma Sow made it clear: the Head of State has never entered into any covert agreement while in prison. He emphasized that Bassirou Diomaye Faye remained steadfast in his political convictions throughout the 2024 transition process that brought him to power.

The presidential advisor also rejected claims that the President participated in any maneuver to undermine Senegalese citizens’ right to freely choose their leaders. « He has not engaged in any attempt to hijack the people’s sovereign will, » Aldiouma Sow declared.

He went on to explain the President’s vision of political dialogue. According to Aldiouma Sow, for Bassirou Diomaye Faye, dialogue is not a temporary tactic or a tool for managing power struggles. Instead, it is a core principle that shapes his governance and institutional decisions.

This public response comes at a time when tensions persist within the PASTEF majority and among its supporters, ahead of the highly anticipated party congress. Aldiouma Sow’s statement reignites discussions about the relationship between Senegal’s top leadership figures and the future direction of the government.
