Ziguinchor — A prominent voice in Senegalese civil society has urged President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to prioritize dialogue and national unity amid ongoing political tensions.
Demands for Resilience and Stability
Chérif Bouna Samsidine Aïdara, speaking on iRadio, emphasized that Senegal is navigating challenging times and called for a collective embrace of peace and resilience. He highlighted the urgency of resolving political divisions at the highest levels of government, stressing that leadership must work in harmony to safeguard the nation’s stability.
The activist underscored the need for both the President and Prime Minister to adopt a resilient mindset, aligning their actions with the International Day of Peace to guide the country toward progress.
Public Anxiety Over Political Climate
Aïdara also voiced concerns about the growing unease among Senegalese citizens, who he says are increasingly unsettled by the current political climate. In his remarks, he noted that media reports and political developments have fueled fears of instability, with many fearing the consequences of prolonged discord at the state level.
« We are witnessing a crisis at the pinnacle of our government, » he stated. « Our leaders must take the time to collaborate and find common ground for the greater good of the nation. »
Direct Appeal to Leadership
In a final appeal, Aïdara urged President Faye and Prime Minister Sonko to prioritize dialogue and reconciliation, warning that prolonged political strife could undermine Senegal’s hard-won stability. His call reflects broader societal concerns about the need for unity in the face of uncertainty.
