Kjell Scherpen is set to join Ipswich Town on a loan deal, according to reports. The Belgian goalkeeper, who has been with Union St-Gilloise since 2025, will spend the next four years with the English club.
The 26-year-old, who played for Brighton & Hove Albion from 2021 until his move to Belgium last summer, had been linked with several clubs in the transfer market. Ipswich Town have now confirmed that they have secured Scherpen’s services on a short-term deal, pending the completion of a medical.
According to sources, the loan fee is around £10 million, although there is an option for Ipswich to sign him permanently at the end of the season.
Scherpen has had a successful spell in Belgium, helping Union St-Gilloise win the Gant d'or award as best goalkeeper and the Croky Cup. He will now look to make an impact in England, where he faces competition from Christian Walton for a place in the starting lineup.
