RPG’s women spearhead a renewed party drive in Gabon

Yesterday afternoon, the women’s wing of the Rassemblement pour le Gabon (RPG) signaled a fresh era of intensified party activities. Their gathering was dedicated to actualizing the directives laid out by the political group’s newly appointed president, Raphaël Edzang. Having formally assumed his role on Saturday, June 27th, Mr. Edzang had previously emphasized the crucial need to inject new momentum into the party, aiming to restore its vigor. He openly stated his primary objective: to reactivate all party structures, including provincial, departmental, and district councils, ensuring their full operational capacity.

This comprehensive restructuring represents the initial significant hurdle in revitalizing the RPG for sustained, long-term impact. Mr. Edzang acknowledged that the party had experienced “a few minor issues” in recent years, which had considerably hindered its operational effectiveness. Nevertheless, the challenge is met with a profound sense of hope shared by its members. A genuine enthusiasm was palpable during the recent congress and at his investiture ceremony, serving as a clear indicator that “the RPG is making a comeback.”

However, this ambitious return requires substantial efforts in mobilizing supporters and raising awareness about the various policy themes championed by the political organization. Indeed, at the outset of his four-year term, a comprehensive three-phase program is already in motion.

The first phase involved a thorough review of the party’s foundational texts, ensuring their alignment with the current political landscape. This overhaul also addressed the critical concern of establishing a balanced distribution of power within decision-making bodies. The second phase will concentrate on updating the party’s societal vision, transitioning from aspirational slogans such as “free schooling, free healthcare, jobs for all, and land for all” to concrete, actionable implementation plans.

To achieve this, extensive information and explanatory campaigns will be launched to educate the public on the practical steps required to deliver effective free healthcare, widespread access to education, eradication of unemployment, and equitable land access for every citizen.

“The RPG is returning, and it is entirely possible,” affirmed Raphaël Edzang in conclusion.
