Hours after his official inauguration as the head of state, President Romuald Wadagni has announced the formation of his first cabinet in Bénin. This new government, comprising 22 ministers and three delegated ministers, demonstrates a clear strategy: blending the stability of experienced figures from the preceding administration with the fresh perspectives of new, strategically chosen profiles.
The composition of this cabinet underscores the new president’s commitment to advancing the significant reforms initiated under the tenure of Patrice Talon. Simultaneously, it signals his intent to steer Bénin towards his distinct policy priorities, particularly in the crucial areas of digital transformation, innovation, and enhanced public governance.
Among the key ministerial appointments, Yvon Détchénou assumes leadership of the Ministry of Justice and Legislation, while Aristide Médenou takes the helm at the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Gildas Agonkan has been appointed as the Minister of National Defense, and Djibril Mama Cissé Moussa is entrusted with the vital portfolio of Interior and Public Security.
Bénin’s diplomatic efforts will now be guided by Corinne Amori Brunet, who has been named Minister of Foreign Affairs. Olushegun Adjadi Bakari retains his strategic position at the Ministry of Tourism, Foreign Trade, and Industry, a role critical for bolstering the nation’s economic appeal and international engagement.
The newly formed executive also places significant emphasis on social sectors. Benjamin Hounkpatin continues in his role at the Ministry of Health, Véronique Tognifodé is appointed to oversee the Ministry of Family and Social Action, and Sedami Medegan Fagla steps into the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
A notable innovation within this government team is the establishment of a dedicated portfolio for Digital Transformation and Innovation, assigned to Mahouna Aklogan. This strategic move highlights the new administration’s ambition to accelerate technological modernization and advance Bénin’s digital transition.
In the crucial infrastructure and living environment sectors, Georges Alley has been appointed Minister of Transport and Living Environment, while Edouard Dahomey assumes leadership of the Ministry of Energy, Water, and Mines.
The government further includes three delegated ministers, alongside the significant appointment of Wilson Gakpéto to the strategic position of Secretary General of the Government.
With the unveiling of this initial team, President Romuald Wadagni signals a clear direction for Bénin: a blend of institutional stability, administrative continuity, and a strong focus on new development priorities. This comes at a time when public expectations remain high across economic, social, and technological fronts.
