Romuald wadagni formally assumes presidency in Bénin

The ceremony commenced with the Constitutional Court, arrayed in solemn judicial attire on the dais, formally declaring the presidential election results.

Anticipation built for several minutes before the pivotal moment arrived: Romuald Wadagni was called upon to take his oath. Dressed in a distinguished suit with a blue tie, his right hand raised, he solemnly swore to uphold and defend the Constitution, accepting the full force of the law in the event of perjury.

This profound pledge was marked by a resounding twelve-gun salute. Following this, he was proclaimed Grand Master of the National Orders, before the Chief of Staff ascended the platform to present him with the national flag.

President Wadagni committed himself to serving Bénin with unwavering integrity, courage, and steadfastness, simultaneously guaranteeing the rule of law and safeguarding fundamental liberties. He promised the Béninese populace a path to economic growth that would benefit every household.

Addressing the critical issue of terrorism, he affirmed Bénin’s resolute stance against any threats to its national security.

Deepening International Cooperation

On the esplanade of the Palais des Congrès, the front rows were graced by former Béninese heads of state, Nicéphore Soglo and Thomas Boni Yayi, alongside representatives from 16 foreign delegations. Among these esteemed guests were the French Minister Delegate for International Partnerships and all of Bénin’s neighboring nations: Togo, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and notably Niger, with whom relations currently remain strained.

Turning his attention to the neighboring countries, whose presence he warmly acknowledged, President Wadagni articulated his strong desire to deepen regional cooperation. “We are destined to work together,” the Béninese president concluded, emphasizing the necessity of collective effort.
