Rabat recently played host to a special event marking the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Vietnam. Organized by the Vietnamese embassy in the Kingdom in collaboration with the High Commission for Former Resistance Fighters and Army Members, the celebration unfolded on a Friday, featuring a series of commemorative activities.
a tribute to peace and shared values
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of a thematic exhibition titled “President Hô Chi Minh: A Symbol of Peace and International Friendship”. Running until June 26, the exhibition traces the life and legacy of the Vietnamese national hero, whose unwavering commitment to peace, independence, and cross-national cooperation continues to inspire generations. The display, made possible through a partnership with the Hô Chi Minh Memorial Site under Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, also features contributions from the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association.
strengthening bonds through dialogue
Central to the day’s agenda was a seminar focused on exploring avenues to deepen bilateral cooperation. The discussions covered key sectors such as diplomacy, economics, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. Addressing the gathering, Mustapha El Ktiri, High Commissioner for Former Resistance Fighters and Army Members, emphasized the deep historical and strategic significance of the Morocco-Vietnam relationship. He described the celebration as a reflection of two nations whose shared struggles and commitment to freedom have forged a lasting bond built on common values and mutual destiny.
El Ktiri, who also serves as president of the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association, drew attention to the symbolic Gate of Vietnam inaugurated in Kénitra in 2022. This structure mirrors the Gate of Morocco in Bà Vi, Vietnam, creating twin monuments that bridge continents and generations, symbolizing enduring ties between the two peoples.
diplomatic and economic momentum
Le Kim Quy, Vietnam’s Ambassador to Morocco, highlighted the remarkable progress in bilateral relations, noting a surge in high-level visits and exchanges in recent years. These interactions underscore the mutual trust and shared determination to elevate the partnership to new heights. Economically, the exchanges have flourished, with bilateral trade reaching $390 million in 2025—a figure that reflects the growing dynamism of the relationship.
The Ambassador also pointed to advancements in education, cultural exchanges, and decentralized cooperation between local governments as key drivers of this positive trend. To further cement these ties, a new Hô Chi Minh Library was inaugurated during the event. Housing books in French, English, and Arabic, the library’s collection was generously donated by the Hô Chi Minh Memorial Site to the High Commission for Former Resistance Fighters and Army Members.
