During a pivotal session addressing current affairs at the National Assembly on Friday, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko vigorously defended the new legislation designed to impose stricter penalties for acts against nature. He affirmed that this law would be applied with unwavering resolve, ensuring no distinctions or leniency in its enforcement.
Sonko issued a stern warning, stating that legal proceedings would extend beyond minor offenders. He explicitly declared that what he referred to as the “big fish” would also be pursued and brought to justice. The Prime Minister emphasized that the overarching goal is to completely eradicate this phenomenon throughout Senegal.
Moreover, the Prime Minister used this platform to deliver an unambiguous message to Western nations that may have voiced concerns or reservations about the new law. He firmly asserted that Senegal would not accept directives or lessons from any external entity, thereby reinforcing a sovereignist position that has characterized his leadership since he assumed his current responsibilities.
