Niamey hosts key UEMOA parliamentary session for regional integration

The 58th ordinary session of the West African Economic and Monetary Union Interparliamentary Committee (CIP-UEMOA) is actively underway in Niamey. On the sidelines of these important proceedings, Dr. Mamoudou Harouna Djingarey, President of Niger’s Consultative Council for Refoundation (CCR), held a significant meeting on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, with a substantial community parliamentary delegation.

2027 budget and strategic directions central to discussions

The delegation from the CIP-UEMOA Bureau was led by its interim president, Fononna Cheick Ahmed Coulibaly. Following this high-level encounter, he revealed the primary topics deliberated with the Nigerien authorities.

This 58th ordinary session, scheduled from July 13 to 18, 2026, in the Nigerien capital, holds a predominantly financial focus.

“We seized this opportunity to present to the CCR president the substance of our work, which centered on the review and adoption of the CIP-UEMOA’s 2027 budget, alongside the multi-year budgetary programming framework for 2027-2029,” stated Fononna Cheick Ahmed Coulibaly.

Review of first half 2026 and focus on integration

The parliamentarians also assessed the activities conducted during the first half of 2026 before outlining priority actions and the necessary budgetary allocations for the second half. Seeking advice and guidance from the CCR president was a key element, aimed at accelerating the regional integration process.

Niger reaffirms its commitment to community solidarity

The interim president of CIP-UEMOA warmly commended Niger’s steadfast dedication. He noted that the quality of the reception underscored the excellent relationship between the Consultative Council for Refoundation and the Interparliamentary Committee, demonstrating the nation’s resolve to foster dialogue and solidarity throughout the West African space.

Both institutions expressed mutual satisfaction with the successful and diligent work accomplished since the session’s commencement. They reiterated their shared commitment to uniting forces, viewing this strengthened parliamentary cooperation as a vital instrument for advancing the well-being of the people and the prosperity of UEMOA member states.
