The FC Nantes vs TFC match abandoned: sanctions reshuffle Ligue 1 standings
The French Professional Football League (LFP) has finalized its decision regarding the abandoned FC Nantes vs TFC match (0-0) in the 34th and final Ligue 1 matchday. The fixture won’t be replayed, and Nantes climbs the standings as a result—though not as much as anticipated.
The LFP confirmed on May 27 that the score at the 22nd minute (0-0) would stand, avoiding a controversial default 3-0 loss for Nantes. This decision came after a chaotic scene where pitch-invading fans protested their club’s relegation with flares and stormed the field.
Toulouse secures ninth-place finish
Toulouse FC (TFC) now sits in ninth position with 45 points, surpassing Lorient on goal difference. This marks their best-ever league finish under new owners RedBird Capital. Even a 3-0 forfeit wouldn’t have pushed them past Strasbourg (8th, 53 points).
The LFP’s ruling stated: “After reviewing the investigation report, the Committee definitively endorses the score recorded on the pitch at the time of abandonment (0-0).” While Nantes avoided sporting sanctions, Toulouse’s progress remains intact.
Nantes faces stadium sanctions
The LFP penalized Nantes with a one-match closed-door game and two-game closure of the Loire stand—the same section where ultras breached the pitch. Though point deductions were a risk, the club escapes heavier penalties as it prepares for Ligue 2 without home support.
