Morocco kuwait boost air travel ties with strategic talks

In a significant step toward deepening regional aviation partnerships, Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, met with Cheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Sabah, President of Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation, in Rabat this week. The high-level discussions centered on strengthening air navigation cooperation between the two nations, aligning with broader goals of enhancing safety and bilateral connectivity.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 29th General Assembly of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, hosted in Morocco, where delegates explored ways to revitalize air transport links and improve operational standards across the sector.

During the talks, Minister Kayouh highlighted the long-standing, strong ties between Morocco and Kuwait, noting that both countries are committed to reinstating direct flights between Kuwait City and Casablanca. He emphasized that Royal Air Maroc is actively preparing to resume this route once its new fleet of long-haul aircraft becomes operational, ensuring reliable and modern air travel options.

For his part, Cheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Sabah underscored the strategic importance of increasing air traffic between the two countries, particularly in anticipation of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal. He pointed out that enhanced air connectivity will play a crucial role in accommodating the expected surge in tourism from the Gulf region and beyond.

The assembly concluded with key leadership appointments, including the election of members for the Organization’s governing bodies for the 2026–2028 term—such as the General Assembly, Executive Council, and technical committees—as well as the appointment of Khalid Cherkaoui as the new Director General of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization.
