Legal action taken against Ousmane Sonko over touba remarks

A complaint filed with Dakar prosecutor regarding statements about Touba

A formal complaint has been lodged with the Republic Prosecutor at the Dakar High Court against Ousmane Sonko, who currently serves as both the President of the National Assembly and the leader of the PASTEF party. The complaint, submitted by a collective of Serigne Touba’s descendants, demands a judicial investigation into statements made by Sonko during the inauguration of his party’s headquarters.

The plaintiffs allege that Sonko claimed during this event that “dirty money entered the holy city of Touba.” They argue that these remarks have caused serious harm to the honor, reputation, and image of Touba, as well as to the dignity of its residents.

The complainants, identifying themselves as Senegalese citizens, young intellectuals, and economic operators, have requested that the Prosecutor:

  • Initiate a formal investigation into the matter
  • Summon Ousmane Sonko to clarify the meaning of his statements
  • Request supporting evidence for his claims
  • Conduct all necessary inquiries to determine the validity of these assertions

The group maintains that Sonko’s words have significantly damaged the sanctity and moral standing of Touba, a city deeply revered in Senegalese religious and cultural traditions.
