Kvaratskhelia’s psg transfer still a bitter pill for napoli president

In January 2025, Paris Saint-Germain orchestrated one of the most significant moves of the winter transfer window. The Parisian club secured the services of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Naples for a substantial €70 million. This pivotal signing dramatically altered PSG’s season trajectory, a reality that Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, still finds incredibly difficult to accept.

This transfer stands out as arguably one of PSG’s most impactful acquisitions in recent memory. During the 2025 winter transfer period, the capital club committed €70 million to bring Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris from Naples, a move that materialized six months after initial negotiations were stalled by the Italian club’s demands. Undeniably, this acquisition transformed the squad under Luis Enrique, who subsequently guided the team to a Champions League triumph last season. This current season, the Georgian forward has elevated his performance even further, solidifying his status as PSG’s pivotal figure in the elite European competition. Such remarkable success only deepens the sense of regret for Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

De Laurentiis still smarting from Kvaratskhelia’s departure

“In just one year at Naples, Kvara ascended to stardom. However, he chose not to honor his contractual obligations, which were poorly managed by his agents and family. Any comparison to Maradona only brings a smile to my face. Maradona is beyond comparison, truly unique, and utterly irreplaceable. Even as a man, he was extraordinary and a devoted admirer of both Naples and Napoli. He was a billion-carat gem!” De Laurentiis asserted, before elaborating further on the matter.

“In one year at Napoli, Kvara became a star”

“I highly doubt that the affection he now receives in Paris can rival the inherent charm of a city like Naples. Naples, founded 2,500 years ago as Parthenope, which also signifies ‘siren’ in ancient Greek. Ultimately, Kvara acted much like Ulysses. He plugged his ears with wax, preventing himself from being enchanted by the siren song of Naples and from hearing our offers for contract extension,” Aurelio De Laurentiis concluded, reflecting on the star forward’s move.
