GCE 2026 exam postponement follows leaked questions on social media
In response to a massive leak of confidential exam questions circulating on social platforms, the Ministry of Secondary Education has announced the postponement of all remaining written General Certificate of Education (GCE) exams scheduled for June 8-18, 2026.
The decision comes after Nalova Lyonga, Minister of Secondary Education, confirmed the leak during a press briefing on June 6, 2026. Authorities are now investigating the source of the breach while urging 208,761 candidates nationwide to remain calm and use the additional time for further preparation.
The rescheduled exams will now take place from June 22 to July 2, 2026. Notably, technical and professional exams will proceed as planned without interruption. The Ministry has emphasized that a false document claiming a different decision was circulating online, but the official postponement remains unchanged.
Security measures strengthened amid recurring exam leaks
In Cameroon, leaks of official exam questions—commonly referred to as “l’eau”—have become a persistent challenge, compromising the integrity of certifications like the Baccalaureate and GCE. The leaked materials often spread rapidly on WhatsApp and Telegram, with some including unofficial answer keys shared hours before scheduled exams.
Investigations have repeatedly exposed weaknesses in the examination logistics chain, from question selection and validation to printing and distribution. Reports indicate potential involvement of teachers and administrative staff in facilitating these leaks. To combat fraud, authorities have implemented stricter security protocols, including the introduction of QR codes and digitalization of exam materials.
The Ministry urges candidates to report any suspicious activity and attend their designated exam centers on Monday as scheduled. While the investigation continues, the focus remains on ensuring fairness and integrity for all students across the country.
