Gabon’s persistent economic dialogue with the International Monetary Fund

Gabon is currently engaged in intensive negotiations and technical preparations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to establish a new framework for economic cooperation. The nation continues to foster a productive dialogue with its long-standing financial partner. Indeed, the Gabonese government affirms that “the discussions between the government and the IMF are progressing consistently, marked by a constructive and responsible atmosphere.”

Furthermore, since the conclusion of the spring meetings last April, Gabonese representatives and IMF teams have maintained regular exchanges via videoconference. These sessions adhere to a jointly agreed schedule, primarily dedicated to technical work. The Ministry of Economy confirmed that “on July 2, 2026, in Washington, at the IMF headquarters, Thierry Minko, the Minister of Economy, Finance, Debt, and Public Participations, also responsible for combating the high cost of living, held an amicable meeting with the IMF’s Africa Director, accompanied by colleagues including Aliona Cebotari, the mission chief for Gabon.”

According to the administration, “the dialogue is advancing along a mutually defined roadmap that is cohesive and structured around the amended finance law for 2026, the macroeconomic and budgetary framework for the 2027-2029 period, the gradual consolidation of economic, financial, and budgetary data, and the preparation for subsequent stages of engagement with the Fund.”
